Hi there, I am Sophie
Professional project lead. Caregiver. An expatriate based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Some years back, I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually opened a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to Netherlands wasn’t part of the long-term plan. Like many expat moves, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, and higher expectations. Everyday chores seemed more challenging than they ought to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and plenty of hands-on learning. Gradually, routines took shape. We found places that suited us, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt steady.
Why I Built HazeSonicVelvet
Most online information fell into either corporate relocation tips or shallow tourism content. What was missing was an authentic, everyday family viewpoint.
This website aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance grounded in real life in Netherlands.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site IS:
- Hands-on experience from living in Netherlands
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site ISN'T:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in Netherlands goes on, and the learning journey continues as well. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Amsterdam or anywhere in Netherlands, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
All the best,
Sophie
